In theory, having the President of the United States throwing the first pitch at opening day is a good thing. An even better theory is having that president throw out the first pitch in Washington, D.C. But that belief doesn't account for our current head numbskull George W. Bush.
Check out this youtube video of W. getting serenaded by a bunch of boobirds. There's no way anyone in attendance could have known Bush would have been there. The Secret Security wouldn't let that info get out beforehand. But that's too bad because imagine all the clever signs people could have held up if they knew he was making an appearance. Shit, I'd pay money to go to a baseball game just to boo our president if I knew he was going to be there. And I don't even like baseball (but that's another topic for another day).
There's plenty of negative things to say about Bush, but I'll give him this: He's got a decent arm for an old man.
PS Click this link soon because Major League Baseball has already taken a few off of Youtube for copyright issues.

PRONTO...
...is how Italians answer the phone. Basically, it means, "I'm ready. Start talking." I think it's my new motto. Cut the bullshit. Get to it.
Drank Absynthe for the first time last night. Man, could I feel that. I heard it was unlike any other buzz and that is the truth. By 3:30 a.m., my stomach felt like I drank a case of beer, ate Thanksgiving dinner and did one thousand sit-ups. Right after I drank it, I got something similar to heartburn, but not quite the same vibe. I was burping a lot and then I thought I was having a heartattack because my chest began to cave in. For the hours in between those two feelings, I was a light-headed, loose-legged dancing machine...
Yesterday we went to the Dachau concentration camp. My first thought was how fucking cold it was. Then the reality sank in. A whirlwind of emotions kicked in my mind, but my lasting impression was how the country I live in (notice I didn't say my country)is royaling fucking things up worldwide. For all of Dachau's misery, the pictures and scenes from a mini-documentary about U.S. troops freeing the prisoners gave me an overwhelming sense of pride, a feeling I've never had for my country, partially because until last week I had never left it. The American troops -- along with many others I assume -- saved a lot of lives in Dachau and that sentiment was written across every prisoner's face. One pic in particular was taken from above. The prisoners -- bones showing through their faded striped clothes -- were waving their hats and smiling in a way I'd never seen before. I got goosebumps thinking about that moment when those people knew things were getting better. But Iraq and terrorism was never far from my mind. Here in Dachau was a perfect example of what the United States military should be about, but in 2008, it is the exact opposite. We are not liberating anyone. Period. If you're the type who thinks Bush is the second coming of God, Kennedy, Lincoln, Washington and Elvis rolled into one, go to a concentration camp and see what liberation really is. Those troops I support 100 percent because, based on what little knowledge I gained from my 12 years in the shitty public school system, they were fighting the good fight. It's unfortunate that the same can't be said about our current troops. Unless you're talking the liberation of oil and money into fat bastards' pockets.
As far as Dachau itself, it's a massive plot of land that could never accurately show the suffering thousands of people endured. Most of the original buildings are gone and in its place are a few replicas and a few religious memorials. I didn't care much for those as I don't see how three churches are going to somehow rectify the damage inflicted on those grounds. To me it stunk like more religious infiltration of an event that tugs at everyone's heart, even a hedonistic agnostic such as myself. I don't need to see a cross or star of David to remind me of what went down at that site. The gas chambers were, well, I pride myself of being a decent wordsmith, but what does anyone say about that? It was fucked up beyond belief.

Now for happier news...Last night was Fat Thursday in Garmisch. I almost stayed home as I wanted to get some writing done and I was feeling like a cold was taking over my body. Perhaps that had something to do with the fact that the only thing I ate or drank until 5 p.m. was bubbling water and cold stale fries from Burger King. But I showered and said fuck it. I'm in Germany. I can stay home at home. We dressed in our one-piece ski suits (it's similar to Halloween -- everyone dresses up)and took a cab to this amazing German concert hall where a band played a slew of American covers like Blue Suede Shoes, Proud Mary, Brown Eyed Girl, etc. The joint was empty when we got there, but filled up within 30 minutes. The crazy thing was, although the venue was very German, it felt like I was at a college bar due to the mass amounts of 20-something American kids who live in town. Thanks to the aforementioned Abysnthe, I was feeling good and danced with everyone in sight. Lots of good costumes. There were four dudes dressed as cigarettes with smoke coming from the top of their heads and a group of storks with a baby doll that they handed me to dance with. I obliged. But the best was the two girls dressed as flight attendants. They had a fully legit cart stocked with a tray made of fishsticks, corn and fruit, TONS of booze (beer and the hard shit), napkins and a handful of small potato chip bags. I told them it was the best costume accessory I'd ever seen and I meant it. The told me they walked to the joint and made 60 Euro selling drinks on the way there. I hope Chip got a pic. If so, I'll post it cuz their committment to their costume was like nothing I'd ever seen.
Finally doing laundry right now. Time to change my wash to dry.

THE ORGS ARE THERE TO HELP
Holy shit is this Tom Cruise video good. Normally I don't give two shits about actors, but this is too much. Newsflash to Scientology -- If recruiting people is what you're looking to do, putting a fully whacked-out actor who speaks goobledygook isn't the way to do it. And what's with the cloud at the bottom of the screen? Too much. Cruise says he can't take a vacation. Well Tom, email me. I'll give you my pin number. Take out some cash and do it. Go for a long time. I suspect the rest of us will be fine in your abscence. And what's with that song? It's a pretty cool riff if ya ask me. The next band I'm in, we're covering that shit. "You're either in or you're out?" Heidi Klum called, she wants her catchphrase back. And who's David Miswhatshisname? Is Tom aware that unlike all the other idiotic religions out there, his is one that can be traced back just a few years? To a science fiction writer no less? In all areas of life, there are hierarchies. In literature, sci-fi writers are near the bottom, slightly above the creeps who write about wizards and sorcerors. I mean, if you're gonna be stupid enough to believe in a religion, at least be smart enough to pick one that happened so long ago it can't be proven false. At the end, the video says a Scientologist is defined by one question -- Would I like others to have the knowledge I have? Well, turns out I'm a freak too because I DO want others to have my knowledge. For starters, I know this guy's got more than one screw loose. I always know actors are fools with little to no creative talent. They're attention-starved nerds who got beat up in high school. Take those Sopranos guys, acting all hard everywhere they go. They're fucking actors, not in the mafia (By the way, the mafia doesn't exist, so how could they?) I can rant for days about actors and religion. Put them together and I'm in trouble. In Scientology's defense, I don't think what they believe is any kookier than what anyone else believes. Faith of any kind scares me. The fact that people are willing to turn their backs on finding the truth in favor of hoping there is some old guy in the sky watching over us...kill me now. Anyone who says humans are the smartest creatures on the planet are fucking dead wrong. My cats have never expressed any religious beliefs to me, none that I could comprehend anyway. That alone makes their species much more intelligent than mine. Yesterday we ran into a guy we know. He's in AA and says he's now spending his time reconnecting with the Lord. Good luck dude. You're better off reconnecting with a tallboy, but what do I know? If the Lord was so good, he wouldn't have put you in this horrid group home, now would he? Another thing, the word "he" should NEVER be capitalized when referring to Jesus or God. NEVER. That's giving creedence to something that doesn't, has never and never will exist. And can someone tell me the difference between Jesus and God? I swear, I don't know the answer. I've been told, but remembering fairytale nuasances isn't my forte, just like I don't remember what happens in The Cat in the Hat. For years I've tried to be a decent person around others who believe, but not anymore. Life is short and I don't have time for people who want to live their lives with their heads in the sand. Besides, these people don't have much decency when they discover non-believers. It's in the Christian doctrine (and apparently Scientology) to spread the word of Jesus. Whoever invented Christianity was a fucking genius by putting that info into the religion. Find a bunch of stupid people and tell them it's their duty to spread a belief system that you made up so you can get more popular. Shit, if I knew how to do that with this here blog, I'd be a billionaire. Marketing genius I tell ya. The problem with pushy people is THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS GOD, GET OVER IT. Live on planet Earth, in the year 2008, with the rest of society. Please. I lose a tiny bit of respect for someone when I find out they believe in a certain religion. We're trying to evolve as people and these morons aren't helping. Anyone with just a bit of a functioning brain can see religion is a made up way to keep people down. Some powertripper invented a bunch of bullshit back before humans had things like roofs over their heads and electricity. But we don't need it anymore (not that we ever did). Tom Cruise, go fuck yourself. Steven Baldwin, same to you. Ditto Mel Gibson. Mr. President, double to you. You're actually in charge of running the ENTIRE country, not simply the one Christian one. Ah, fuck it. I give up. I can't change anyone's mind. I'd need a religion to do that.
